2025 AFCON: Cameroon Secures Qualification After 1-0 Win Against Kenya

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have officially booked their place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), following a well-fought 1-0 victory over Kenya. The match, held at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda, on October 14, 2024, saw both teams battling for supremacy, but it was Boris Enow’s decisive free-kick in the 63rd minute that secured the win.

A Fiercely Contested Match

The game began cautiously, with both teams creating several chances, but it was Cameroon’s defense, led by goalkeeper Andre Onana, that managed to keep Kenya’s Michael Olunga and his team at bay. After a goalless first half, the introduction of Boris Enow proved pivotal. His stunning free-kick from the edge of the box was enough to beat the Kenyan defense and find the back of the net.

Despite Kenya’s efforts to level the game, including a missed header by Alphonce Omija in the dying moments of the match, Cameroon held firm to claim victory.

Unbeaten Record and Dominance in Group J

This win puts Cameroon at the top of Group J with 10 points, making it mathematically impossible for them to finish outside the top two, which guarantees qualification for the AFCON finals in Morocco. The Lions have been dominant throughout the qualifiers, with wins against Namibia and Kenya at home, and a draw away against Zimbabwe.

The final two matches, a home game against Zimbabwe and an away fixture against Namibia, are now more of a formality for the Lions, who are looking to maintain their unbeaten run.
