Health Workers In Cameroon To Go On Strike
Health workers in Cameroon, under their Union of Health Workers, have announced plans to go on a nationwide strike by the end of this month. The strike, set for September 30, will take place in front of the Ministry of Public Health in Yaoundé and at regional delegations across the country. The union’s grievances include the exploitation of 27,000 temporary workers without salaries or social protection, non-payment of promotions and benefits, professional discrimination in recruitment, and unfair dismissals of staff representatives. Additionally, they are protesting interference by the Ministry in union activities and disciplinary assignments meant to push workers to resign. This latest strike threat follows a previous notice issued on July 17, 2024, which has seen no government action to resolve the concerns. The union has vowed to continue its actions until meaningful improvements are made.
