The Chinese Hospital Ship « Peace Ark » Continues Its Medical Mission in Cameroon

The Chinese naval hospital ship, Peace Ark, has continued its humanitarian mission in Cameroon, providing much-needed healthcare services to the local population. Since its arrival, the ship has received hundreds of patients, offering a wide range of medical services aimed at improving public health.

Hundreds of patients received on board daily 🚢

On October 10, 2024, the Peace Ark received about three hundred patients during its morning session, with more expected to come aboard in the afternoon. The ship has been working tirelessly to treat local patients with a variety of medical conditions. According to Doctor Fokam Pius, a volunteer orthopaedic surgeon from the Douala Referral Hospital, the ship’s team is providing consultations for complex cases, with medications prescribed to patients for further treatment at local facilities 🏥.

Complex cases to be handled in local hospitals

Dr. Fokam explained that while the Peace Ark is equipped to provide a wide range of medical services, complicated ailments that require extensive treatment are referred to local hospitals for continued care. These cases, which may take days or even weeks to fully address, cannot be managed within the limited time the ship has in Cameroon.

However, the Peace Ark has already achieved success in conducting eye surgeries 👁️, with four operations successfully carried out the previous day. The ship’s presence is offering critical medical support, particularly to those who may not otherwise have access to such specialized services.
