World’s Potential Largest Aluminiun Deposit on the Way in Cameroon.
Cameroon’s interim Minister of Mines , Fuh Calistus Gentry, handed over an exploitation permit to Camalco, the Cameroonian subsidiary of Australian mining firm Canyon Resources, on September 13th. The permit will result to the construction of a bauxite deposit in mini-martap in the Adamawa Region. The Ministry of Mines relays that, the foundation stone will be laid in 2025, with plans to hire over 100 Cameroonians for the initial phase. The bauxite is expected to prossess into alumina by 2027. According to, Canyon Resources’ latest analysis, the mini-mintap deposit shows a potential 892 million tons of bauxite across 16 out of the 79 identified bauxite plateaus, with 250 million tons refered to as high quality for alluminiun production. The remaining 63 plateaus according to James Durrant canyon’s former project manager, could represent a potential 2 billion tons , making it probably the largest deposit in the world in terms of quality.
