Polio Vaccination Campaign Launched in Douala to Combat Outbreak in the Littoral Region
The city of Douala is currently hosting a polio vaccination campaign as part of the National Immunization Days initiative. The campaign, which began on October 24, 2024, is a direct response to the recent polio outbreak in the Littoral region.
A regional advocacy meeting was held on October 23 at the Littoral governor’s office, bringing together administrative authorities to address the critical need for widespread vaccination. The meeting also called on media practitioners to raise awareness about the importance of the polio vaccine, especially for children aged 0-5.
The Importance of the Campaign 🧒👶
Polio remains a serious threat to public health, particularly among young children. With the virus resurfacing in the Littoral region, this campaign aims to vaccinate as many children as possible to prevent the virus from spreading further. The authorities are also focusing on raising awareness among parents about the importance of the vaccine and ensuring that every eligible child receives it during the campaign, which will run until October 27, 2024.
Mobilizing Local Communities and Media 🗣️
The success of this campaign largely depends on the collaboration of different stakeholders, including local authorities, health workers, and the media. Media outlets have been urged to actively promote the campaign across all platforms to reach as many families as possible.
